Lecture: Spread of Immoralities through Social Media

By the grace of Allah, the Almighty, according to the instructions of beloved Huzoor abaabbreviation for "May Allah be his helper", Jamia Ahmadiyya UK hosted their second guest lecture over Zoom. The lecture was delivered by respected Omair Aleem Sahib. Respected Omair Aleem Sahib is currently serving as the head of ‘Makhzan-e-Tasaweer,’ the official gallery of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. He has also had the blessed opportunity of taking photographs at the community’s activities since the time of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IV rhabbreviation for "May Allah have mercy on him/her/them".

The topic that Omair Aleem Sahib spoke on was, ‘Spread of Immoralities through Social Media.’ This topic is essential for every missionary and is one of the most essential issues that we have to face in the field. In today’s modern age, children and adults ranging from all ages can access social media. Most people use smartphones, and with this comes the use of social media. The easy access to social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other such platforms; including their lack of censorship and lack of monitoring, makes this an eminent danger for young adults.

Omair Aleem Sahib began by giving an introduction to the use of social media, and the way ‘Likes’ and ‘Subscribes’ dictate it. He then went on to the status of the pictures of the Promised Messiah asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" and the Caliphs of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. He shared with the students the objective of the Promised Messiah asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" behind having his pictures taken. He mentioned that the reason that the Promised Messiah asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" had a photograph taken of himself was purely for the reason of tabligh. The Promised Messiah asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" stated that his photographs can lead people to accept Ahmadiyyat. The Promised Messiah asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" said that people had accepted true Islam by seeing the countenance of the Promised Messiah asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him".

Omair Aleem Sahib spoke about how the enemies of the community use photographs of the Promised Messiah asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" and the Caliphs and alter them in ways that are extremely painful to all of us. He reiterated how important it is for us to be careful regarding the usage of these images and the purposes behind them.

Omair Aleem Sahib asked the students to analyse the use, benefits and harms of social media, asking ourselves, “Why we are using it and what the purpose of our use of it is?” He mentioned the issues of ‘pardah’ in comment sections. He stressed the importance of being careful of social media and its negative aspects.

The guest lecture was followed by some questions and answers from the students and was concluded with silent prayer.
